Where did the band name come from?
It was just one of those names that sounded good, it doesn’t have any real meaning. But it fits with all the other great bands names too… Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, Dead Legend!
Band Bio:
Hollywood, California based rock group Dead Legend was formed in 2002 in Northern CT with songwriter/singer/guitarist Ryan Michael, bassist Tyler McCarthy and drummer TJ Courtney.
Building on their expanding fan base the band has recently released a six song EP entitled Predawn Hours. The disc was recorded at Rx Studios in Glendale, CA with producer James Book (The Flys/Mozart). Some of the tracks including “Into Flames” and “Radio” have been in heavy rotation on numerous college radio stations throughout the country. “Into Flames” has peaked at
number 3 in the weekly top 20 countdown on local rock station 107.7 WACC and has been in the countdown for 10 consecutive weeks so far.
The band had previously released 2 self produced CD’s (when the band was just 16 years old) which sold out of their initial pressing of 5000 copies. A few tracks from each CD ended up on various soundtracks such as Thrasher Magazines “Jaded” video and “40 PSI.” While still in high school Dead Legend performed over 200 shows mainly on the east coast touring with such acts as Midtown, Hot Rod Circuit, Auto Pilot Off, Hidden in Plain View, Matchbook Romance, and Piebald.
Upon finishing high school in 2004, the band relocated to Los Angeles, California where they continue to make headway in the Southern California music scene. With the recent addition of guitarist Chandler Quintin, the band has taken its live and studio sound to the next level.
The Band
How long has the band been together/how did it form?
TJ, Tyler and I have been playing since 2002. After recording our latest EP “Predawn Hours” as a 3 piece we toyed with the idea of adding a second guitarist. The songs we were writing required a lot more guitar layering which would be impossible to replicate live as a 3 piece. A few months of frustration later, we met up with Chandler who was an old friend of the band and we began rehearsing with him. Everything sort of fell into place after that and none of us could be happier with the direction the band is headed.

Dream tour?
Touring with Green Day I think would be the ultimate dream come true. Green Day is pretty much the sole reason I began playing guitar and writing songs.
What sets Dead Legend apart from other bands of today and your thoughts on the current state of rock music?
I think what makes Dead Legend unique is our identity crisis. We don’t really fit into any genre. We’re a hybrid of hard rock and pop. I think we can appeal to a 25 year old guy as much as a 14 year old girl. Which for me as a songwriter is important, that Dead Legend creates music people can relate to.
