The band:

Dan Mineart - Bass, Sampling, Vocals
Ryan Parrish - Vocals, Percussion
J.K. Royston - Guitar, Keyboards, Sampling, Vocals
Justin Turner - Drums, Percussion

Location:
Harrisonburg VA

Where did the band name come from?

For us, Adelyn is a psuedonym for the existance of hope in everything. We wanted to personify the idea of beauty in darker times and felt like the name paralleled the mood and feeling of our music. We’ve always felt like a powerful hope can be found in other people, so we felt like the name fit the idea really well.

Band Bio:

Through a generation where terms like “disposable music” and “label-manufactured” are often used in reference to new faces in the music industry emerges Adelyn, a passionately original and hard-working quartet set on doing things the old fashioned way; winning over the masses one by one. Since it’s initial conception in Virginia in early 2002, Adelyn has been dedicated to bringing powerhouse live performances to enthusiastic audiences across the Mid-Atlantic region, earning them slots playing alongside the likes of Incubus, Something Corporate, My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights, Yellowcard, Velvet Revolver, Hoobastank, Emery, Silverstein, The Receiving End of Sirens, My American Heart, Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, The Format, alexisonfire, Kiss, Poison, and Edwin McCain in addition to dates on the 2005 and 2004 Vans Warped Tour, a performance at the legendary HFStival (Baltimore MD) in 2005, and artist showcases at South By Southwest (Austin TX) in 2006, Midwest Music Summit (Indianapolis IN) in 2005, CMJ (New York NY) in 2005, Dewey Beach Music Festival (Dewey Beach DE) in 2005, and NEMO Music Conference (Boston MA) in 2005.
Tracks from their 2005 debut “All Systems Are Down” have been used repeatedly on MTV shows including Meet The Barkers, Making The Band III, Miss Seventeen, and Pimp My Ride. Armed with a rapidly growing fanbase, a debut single ("Zero Hour") in rotation on independent radio stations across the country, and the desire to create meaning, honest music, Adelyn continues to push forward as one of the most promising names in the Mid-Atlantic rock circuit.

How long has the band been together/how did it form?

Essentially, we’ve been a serious band for 2 years. Dan, Ryan, our original drummer and I met as hallmates during our freshman year of college and started playing together for the fun of it. Eventually our original drummer left and we picked up Justin right before our first independent tour.

MySpace - Blessing or Curse?

Absolute blessing. As time consuming as it can be, Myspace has exposed us to so many kids around the country that may never have heard of us otherwise. I feel like it’s come to the point where bands have to cast their personal opinions of Myspace aside for the sake of staying competitive and visible on the Internet.

Sound best described as:

Melodic Rock/Indie

30 Seconds To Mars, Acceptance, Thrice, The Receiving End Of Sirens, Incubus, Moments In Grace, Dishwalla

Ultimate Goal as a Band?

As long as we’re writing and performing music that we believe in and feel like someone is responding positively to it, we’re happy and accomplished.

Best Gig?

Opening for Incubus in Virginia Beach. It was honestly a dream come true and one of the most memorable experiences we’ve ever had.

Worst Gig?

Opening for My Chemical Romance in Fairfax. It was an outdoor show that was burdened by tons of rain that caused our equipment to short out a few times. Overall, it was a tough one to get through.

Upcoming Gigs:

We’ll be touring regionally all summer long including four east coast dates on the Warped Tour. We have a complete list available on our website, Myspace page, and Purevolume page.

If you could tour with any band, who would you pick?

Incubus.. we learned a whole lot from just playing with them one night. I can’t even imagine how much we could learn from doing an entire tour with them.

What sets you apart from other bands of today?

We feel like almost every new band has something new and unique to offer listeners, so I think that different bands will set themselves apart in different people’s lives. Honestly, we just do our best to write the most meaningful, unique, and honest songs we can and hope that people can find something positive and relevant to take away from them.
