How long have you been together, how did the band form?:
Since August 05. Chris was a solo artist for 6 years and decided to pursue another avenue with a band. Chris put out one ad at a Guitar Center and Andy Meeks who was the 1st bass player called and was in. He then ran into Mike at a bar and told him about the project and he was in. Mike called Dan because they were in a band called Marathon together. Dan came to one rehearsal and was in. Eventually the lineup changed and Dan moved to bass and Brad joined the band. Brad was in Family Force 5 but departed from the band due to creative differences.
Where is the name derived from?
We rehearse in the city, so every time we drive in, which is usually at night, the streetlights and headlights begin to streem together almost making you feel dizzy or sick. Streetlight Syndrome…

Influences:
Ours, Muse, Jeff Buckley, STP, Butch Walker, many others…
You have an EP coming out soon. Whats the release date and how can people get it?:
The release date is set sometime during the 1st two weeks of August, but you can pre-order it at http://www.Ledge7.com for $6.99.
Can you walk us through some of the songs on the EP?:
These songs are mostly about self discovery. Here is the premise, you have light on one side and then dark on the other. These two have to clash in order to create something beautiful (life). Its about the trials and lessons we all learn that help us become who we are.
Whats the songwriting approach for the band? Is it a group effort or does one of you write the music, someone else write lyrics, etc?
Chris writes the foundation and the lyrics and comes to the band when he feels it is ready to be presented. Then everyone else develops parts around the melodies and feel of the song. The song kind of comes into its own.
Ultimate goal as a band:
Make impactful music that makes you think, and of course to get signed on our own terms.
Best Gig:
Hard Rock Cafe Atlanta, our 1st sell out.
Worst Gig:
Brew fest 06’ ATL. Chris had just gotten back from LA (Rockstar Supernova) and we had not rehearsed in a little over a month. We sucked!
Since youre from Atlanta and Im a huge Butch Walker fan, I have to ask if youre fans of his work?
Yes, we know him and he’s super cool.
How has Chris appearance on Rockstar Supernova impacted the band as a whole?
Our fans on myspace have jumped ten fold and all the press Chris has gotten has mostly been about the band. So the word is spreading.
Who do you think will win the show and will it be a blessing or a curse for them?
It really depends on who wins. We think the last 3 will be Lukas, Dilana, and Toby.
In a world of bands trying to make their mark, what sets SLS apart from the rest?
We stay true to what we do. We are not bogged down with being a fad. Timeless songs, memorable hooks, lyrics that make you question your place in life or re-evaluate.
Thoughts on the current state of the music industry?
Most of the best bands are not getting any recognition because of the image/fad bands that are making labels money. Good music will be back!
Final Words to the people out there:
“Love or leave me
I cant see
when you have the time
Clear the Debris or
no one gets out alive”
Lyrics from “Debris” SLS
Thanks for writing about Streetlight Syndrome!! They are my favorite band and it is really cool to see them get recognition!! There will be more to come from these guys, mark my word!!!!
