There’s nothing worse than a rip off artist and Jet may be one of the biggest offenders in recent memory. Years back, I used to take great pleasure in buying a particular band’s cds (alright Slaughter for you hard rock kids) and trying to guess what song they were totally ripping off.

Ladies and gentlemen…I give you the Slaughter of the 00’s! Jet! Frankly, It really is too bad. They’ve got a nifty sound, and it’s an enjoyable listen, if of course you have no sense of musical history before 2001.

Jet’s big hit “Are You Gonna be my Girl” is lifted completely from Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life.” I mean, it’s not even close. Additionally, there’s a song which appears to be lifted straight from Oasis. (Champagne Supernova anyone?) And finally, when the bands runs out of artists’ songs to steal, they merely decide to imitate AC/DC.

I know AC/DC. I’ve listened to AC/DC. Ive seen AC/DC live. Jet…..you’re no AC/DC.
