Casino Drive - Spin the Truth

Glasstone Records

4 out of 5 stars

1. Beautiful Lies
2. Smile Again
3. Cardio
4. Hands Tied

Casino Drive, a quartet from the UK, had me at, well, the mailbox. Their new EP, Spin the Truth, arrived in a completely biodegradable, compostable envelope. Whether this choice is representative of the band’s overall ideology or simply what was available at the post office is neither here nor there. I was impressed. And it didn’t stop there.

I rarely like anything the first time I listen to it. But it was hard to resist the powerful, catchy anthems that pack Casino Drive’s debut EP, which hits the US on February 4th.

The four-track EP opens with Beautiful Lies, a high-energy effort with seamless harmonies that sets the tone for the rest of the CD. Smile Again grabs the listener right away and keeps the pace going with compelling guitar riffs. Cardio is the more mellow of the tracks, but mellow in Casino Drive-world will still have you on your feet, fists in the air. The EP closes with Hands Tied. Aggressive guitar blasts are countered with smooth, harmonized vocals.

After only four songs, you’re left wanting more. Since Casino Drive has only been together a few short months, I’m guessing we’ll get more – and it will only get better.
