This is an open forum for staff members, contributers, and fans alike to submit their reviews on the latest music releases and concerts. In an industry that is drowning with overprocessed, grossly overrated, unoriginal crap these days, this is our chance to allow the real stars to shine, if only on our humble, little stage; and expose you to some of our favorite talents.

Basement Jaxx has always contained an interesting mix of r and b, funk, pop, rap, house and disco. Yep! It’s out there. Their album previous to this “Roots” was an outstanding melting pot of different styles of music. One of my favorite cds.
On this cd, Basement Jaxx has a roster of guest stars as diverse as Siouxsie Sioux to JC Chasez (Really) to the much hyped Dizzee Rascal. I don’t think it quite reaches the heights of their previous cd….but it’s still pretty damn good.
The Dizzee Rascal track “Lucky Star” is a shining moment, as he proves he has the skills. It’s four and a half minutes of just rapping over a middle eastern sounding beat. It’s excellent. Surprisingly, the JC Chasez track “Plug It In” is also a stand out. It’s a very slick synth pop sounding song. It really wouldn’t sound too weird on your pop radio station. Of course it has the typical Basement Jaxx samples and sounds, but it’s a very well put together song. “If I Ever Recover” is a super cool trancy dreamlike type song. As the album winds down, another very smooth song is the sexy “Tonight” guest starring “Phoebe” (Im guessing not from “Friends”)
Definitely a fun album, and a thumbs up on my end.
