This is an open forum for staff members, contributers, and fans alike to submit their reviews on the latest music releases and concerts. Jordis Unga – Live at the Quest Club in Minneapolis on May 20th, 2006
When the doors opened at six there was a line of fans at the door. Jordis Unga and friends offered a rare club appearance showing everything that makes her the Rock Star that she has become. Performing the songs that have made her name well recognized around the world, Minnesota Native Jordis Unga took the stage of the Quest Club with verve and authority before her fans who had gathered in Minneapolis from points around the globe.
Jordis’ legacy in the club scene of Minnesota stems from her inclusion in the bands The Fighting Tongs and Liar’s Club, and her national notoriety was enhanced by her appearance on televisions “Rock Star – INXS”. Former Epic Records A+R Rep Peter Cohen made the right choice when he applied Jordis to the television show and at her appearance at the Quest Club on May 20th; Jordis showed the packed house of over 800 fans just why she was a finalist in the series.
Assembling a band from top performing musicians, Jordis and company brought out a host of songs featuring titles as performed on the Rock Star DVD, fan favorites from her Liar’s Club/Fighting Tongs days and some acoustic masterpieces that included a stirring rendition of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’. Joining Jordis on stage were members of The Payback, recreating the Liar’s Club line-up and even her musical brother Matiu joined her by strumming up some amazing guitar playing for an unforgettable acoustic set.

It was a completely new experience for some fans who had only known Jordis from her television performances. Live and life-sized, Jordis reached into her passion and drew forth a powerful voice that was unmistakably her own ringing clear to every corner of the room. One couldn’t help but be impressed with her audience interaction and signature style that she applied to even the favorite cover songs she sang from her television tracks on the Rock Star program. As if she had stepped out of a 35 inch television screen and into your living room, Jordis was at the stage edge singing directly to the fans that support her in all she does with her music, and they responded with cheers and chants just begging to hear more. “I flew over from Australia when I saw the show posted on her myspace page. I know I’ll never get the opportunity to meet her up close like this again.” said one fan that made the trip to Minneapolis.
Opening the show was a favored Minneapolis band titled Gingerjake (http://www.gingerjake.com). They were followed by Jordis’ old Liar’s Club band mates in The Payback (http://www.myspace.com/thepayback) and the rotation of artists continued through the Jordis sets as fellow musicians joined in and thrilled the audience with four great sets of music and an encore. A mesmerizing and well arranged series of songs sharing every era of Jordis’ music from her earliest performing days through today and even new music from her upcoming Epic Records release.

Not to let a single fan down, Jordis made her off stage time available to every fan interested in a picture, an autograph or a warm and thankful hug. Catering to the line of patrons for over an hour after the show, Jordis spoke with all of them and answered questions about herself and her music to everyone who asked. Well prepared to offer her best, Jordis sent them all home with an autographed picture and the memory of a rare hometown appearance that has proven she is a rising force in the music industry and will ultimately give her fan base just what they want from this shining talent. A Real Rock Star!
